"Herr Quattro - Has a 4-Motion" (spydermonkeywrench)

I am currently working on a "secret" project that may or may not involve a H12 engine. However, I want to incorporate a I6 piston setup for both sides to make it interesting. I was going to do a H8, with two I4s put together, but since I have the entire front of the car ripped apart i decided to go for a H12 setup. After ripping out 4 cylinders out of a different smaller technic kit, I know have the parts I need. Since this is Legos, I'm pretty much limited to a flat plane crank setup. And all of the pictures I could find online show a multi-dimensional setup, so if anyone has any ideas of what a flat plane crank I6 would look like that would be great.

Like this? Luckily I made a little inline 6 a few years ago.

ummmm I get the feeling your better at this than I am.
But yeah that's technically* what I needed.
*im trying to find an interesting layout, sorta like two I4s.
I have a new idea, it's just a pain getting all the camshaft components to work.
Also, thanks for the picture, I think I understand how I need to put the Pistons together... I think...

yep ;D
What you mean by two I4s? You want a V8 engine using LEGOs V -engine piece or something custom?
Also I think flat plane is all you can do with LEGO. You would need some sort of 45 degree crank journal piece.

Only real problem is the con rods are designed to be used in pairs, so running a single bank might have alignment issues on the crankshaft.

that is my biggest issue right now. I had to cut two "#3" pieces slightly to work in my initial configuration.

no no no, that's what I was going to do originally. Now it's a H12, with one half with extended, and the other half retracted.
And what ur talking about is very much my issue. I got it to work @ one point, but I had to separate two cylinders because of the one piece I was using. So I had to cut it.

And just a question, if I was going to create a H12, should I have the cylinders for the opposite bank facing the same direction or the opposite direction?

Two horizontally opposed engines connected to a center output would work?

Should face the opposite. Would make building it easier IMO.

could I possibly use that picture in the article I'm writing about my now completed engine?
